Ideas for Childrens Film.

Idea 1

• Genre : Family Adventure ?
• Narrative: Chloe and the Giant Pizza (spin off of James and the Giant Peach)
• Characters: Chloe
• This would be better to do as an action film because it would be easier to do.

• Genre : Fantasy
• Narrative:
• Opening a book like in Shrek and Snow White. It's fairy tale book and describes the set up of the film. There is usually a voice over which reads the words on the pages.
• Characters:
• Good person for example a princess
• Bad person for example a witch
• This would be better as a animation because it would be hard to get
  

Idea 3

• Genre : Autobiography
• Narrative:
• A teenage girl and her life story. It shows her friends and family and how she changes from being a geek to popular
• Characters:
• Popular person (and friends), Geeky person (and friends), Girl with a nose job
• Good vs Bad
• This would be an action movie because it would be best to get facial expressions and they would be vital for the characters.

Idea 4

• Genre : Adventure
• Narrative : The Witch Worm, the worm is trying to conquer the worm world
• Characters:
• A worm and cauldron and witch like things and other worms who are scared of the witch worm.
• This could be both an action movie or a animation movie because it would easier to have a lego worm rather than dressing a person up
  

Classification system

Certificate U means universal which is suitable for all children over the age on 5. There needs to be a positive moral framework which offer reassuring counterbalances to any threat or fear. It has to be suitable for children to view alone without any bad language/drugs/weapons or sexual contact.

Certificate PG means parental guidance which is suitable for childrens over the age of 8. Any child under this age can watch it if their parents agree to let them. There may be some discrimination for only educational purposes. Drugs must carry an anti-drug message if they are used in the film, and also horror can be used but only for a short time and not intense. A PG is also more suitable for parents because it has more adult themes.

We are going to make our childrens film a PG certificate, because it has less limitations than a certificate Universal.

101 Dalmatians

The genre of this film is family comedy/adventure. The relationship between the adults and their dogs portray the loving family life. When the two adults are shown with their dogs in the park it has narrative significance to how the film is going to pan out.

The opening titles are shown on the characters as the are introduced individually. Then the directors and editor are shown at the beginning.

The music at the beginning was non-diegetic cheerful score. However when it introduces Cruella Devil it sounds a lot more dramatic like something bad is going to happen. This also reflect on the stereotypical characters, Good vs Evil. This also introduces them at the same time.

The opening shot establishes the location which is London, then cut to the houses and the park showing us that these locations are important. The shot of London seems dull and dark like it is potentially bad. Then inside the house looks happy and warm because the lighting it bright.

Evaluation

During this task we learnt that we should plan out the conversations better, and also gather our characters before hand. Next time we should check our continuity in film because had to use special effects to 'flop' a clip.

If we hadn't 'flopped' the clip then our film would have broken the 180 degree rule, which would also have broken the continuity. The match on action shot was fairly easy to film and it only to took one take. The shot reverse shot, was quite difficult to film as it was hard to signal to the characters when to start talking again. The establishing shot was the easiest to film because it did not involve hand-held camera work.

This has prepared us well for the childrens film because we have learnt that we need to plan better next time. Also we realised what was easiest to shoot, and what things will take longer.

Continuity Task - definitions

• A match on action shot connects two shots cut together by having a character finish an action in the second shot begun in the first shot. For instance, if a character lights a match in the first shot, the same character will draw it up to a cigarette in the second.


• 180 degree system—The continuity approach to editing dictates that the camera should stay on the one side of the action to ensure consistent left-right spatial relations between objects when the shots are edited together. The 180 degree line is the same as the axis of action.


• Shot-Reverse Shot—The alternating of two shots to establish an interaction between the objects in each shot; for example, when a character in shot A is speaking and shot B reveals the character to whom he is speaking.
